Transforming Perceptions

These past few years have brought a whirlwind of emotions between becoming employed, moving half-way across the country, and finally having the ability to focus on myself, my weight loss, and my faith. This blog is a reflection of all of these items and how they interact with each other.

Women on the Frontline

Today's topic is women's rights. Women have fought so hard for equality, I feel like our government is pushing us back to 1920 where the only place for a woman was in the home. Why does our government feel women cannot serve on the frontline because "it's too dangerous"? Is it merely to show us that we need to have a man protect us? Is it to tell us we cannot physically do what men can do?

In a USA Today article, Marine Lt. Col. Sara Phoenix wrote in an e-mail "Gender has no relevance in the Marine Corps today. The ideal of equality is not just about the right to vote or work. This notion that women are somehow not able to perform their jobs in the military in a combat environment flies in the face of everything we say we value in the USA." The way I feel is that if a woman is trained for combat and is as good as any man that she is training with, then why can't she have that position? Discrimination I tell you.

Also, talking about inequalities, last I checked, women in the U.S. make only $0.76 for every dollar a man makes. Are we not as smart? Do we not work as hard? Are we only 3/4ths man???? When is our government going to do something about all of this? Oh...I forgot...we're supposed to be barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen.
